Communicator Message:

July, 2022:  As I write this message, it is hard for me to believe that we are nearly at the midpoint of the summer and another school year will soon be upon us.  I sincerely hope that all of our students and staff are enjoying summer break and that you have been able to find time to not only relax and unwind, but also to have some quality time with your families doing some things that you can enjoy together.  I also hope that every one of our students learns to treasure that time you have with your families.  As parents, we learn just how valuable time with our children is as it sometimes feels like we blink our eyes and years have passed.  As educators, every year is bittersweet, as each spring we have to say goodbye to a group of students who we’ve gotten to know and adore, understanding that there will be a new group of kids with new and different personalities and perspectives who we will get to know in the fall.  One of the things I love the most about Elgin is the family-like atmosphere that I often see amongst our students and staff.  As a person who has spent the majority of my life directly involved in the small-school environment, I appreciate the “family” feel afforded by the smaller-school community.  It is obvious to me that it is not just the parents who value the students of this school district, but the entire community.

There are some exciting things happening as we prepare for the 2022-2023 school year.

  1. We will be entering our 2nd full year of implementation of our school-based preschool program through our partnership with the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center.  We were able to serve nearly 40 preschool students last year, most of whom will be starting Kindergarten in August well ahead of where they would be academically without an organized preschool experience.
  2. Visitors to our campus this year will see some significant facilities improvements to our athletic training complex and track.  The athletic complex renovation, which began in late January, is concluding and includes a completely new weight room and wrestling room that are conducive to safe and effective use by both males and females as well as younger and older student-athletes from all programs.  There have been no significant changes to the athletic complex since its original construction in the late 1980’s and we’re excited about the large number of our students who will be able to utilize the facility for improving their physical health and development.  Similarly, there has not been significant improvements made to the track in nearly 20 years and the resurfacing project will make it one of the top facilities in the area.  The Board continues to regularly evaluate the needs of the district in order to ensure our students have the best possible facilities for the academic and extracurricular needs of our students.
  3. Something else you will see as we draw closer to the start of the next school year is the launch of our new district website.  Improvements are being made to improve the ability of our students, families and community to navigate the site in order to make it our hub of information and communication.  The launch of the new website is planned for late July and new and updated information will continue to be added throughout the school year.  Please check the site regularly for updates at www.elginschools.org.

The first day for students for the 2022-23 school year is Wednesday, August 17.  I hope you enjoy the remainder of the summer and look forward to seeing you then.
