Ohio's State Tests Resources

Ohio's State Tests

Ohio schools will continue to fully implement Ohio's Learning Standards in 2017-2018.  These include the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.  The standards are designed to allow for greater focus and depth within topics and skills.

The state of Ohio has partnered with AIR for the development of Ohio based assessments in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

All state assessments will incorporate computer based testing in grades 3-8 with High School online assessments phased in as capacity allows.

The state assessments will include the following grade level/subject areas:

3rd grade - Eng. Lang Arts and Math
4th grade - Eng. Lang Arts and Math
5th grade - Eng. Lang Arts, Math, and Science
6th grade - Eng. Lang Arts and Math
7th grade - Eng. Lang Arts and Math
8th grade - Eng. Lang Arts, Math, and Science
High School Exams**:  Algebra 1, Geometry, English Language Arts 1, English Language Arts 2, American History (20th Century), American Government & Biology

**Please note, that high school exams result in scores that translate to Graduation Points.  The compiliation of Graduation Points are a key component to meeting graduation requirements per state guidelines.  A minimum of 18 points is required with at least 4 of those points resulting from ELA assessments, 4 from Math assessments, and 6 from Science/Social Studies assessments.

Testing Blueprints:  Test blueprints serve as a guide for test construction and provide an outline of the content and skills to be measured on the test. They contain information about individual tests, including the number of test items, the number of points on the test, and show how the learning standards are grouped in order to report the test results.

ELA Scoring Rubrics:  Two writing rubrics are available for grades 3 through 5: informative/explanatory and opinion. Two writing rubrics are available for grades 6 through high school: informative/explanatory and argumentation. Each rubric describes the score point characteristics across three domains.

Desmos Calculators

Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, the Ohio State Tests will use Desmos as the onlinecalculator. The Desmos calculators available here and in the practice test site have been modified for testing.

The modified versions of the Desmos calculators are available to use for practice at any time and are the same versions students will have available during online testing.

The guidance documents provide information about the modifications for testing, accessibility and additional resources.
