Health
Hello and welcome!
The Health Office is here to help keep our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn each day. We provide care for illness and injuries during the school day, state mandated health screenings, manage student medications and health plans, and work closely with families to support each child’s well-being.
๐ Medication at School- *All forms need to be updated each School Year.
•Any student who needs to take prescription or over-the-counter medication during the school day must have a Medication Authorization Form on file, completed and signed by both the parent/guardian and the healthcare provider.
•Medications must be brought to the school by an adult in the original labeled container.
•Students are not permitted to carry medications unless they are specifically authorized to self-carry with the proper documentation. These medications would be for epipen and inhalers.
•Please notify the school nurse of any health condition changes or new medication needs throughout the year.
๐ฉบ Chronic Medical Conditions
If your child has any of the following health conditions, please ensure that updated action plans and rescue medications are provided to the school nurse before the first day of school:
Asthma
•All students with asthma must have an Asthma Action Plan and Medical Administration Form signed by a healthcare provider.
•A rescue inhaler (such as albuterol) must be available at school.
•If your child is authorized to self-carry, proper forms must be completed.
Seizure Disorders
•All students with a seizure diagnosis must have a Seizure Action Plan, 2 Medication Forms (Part 1, Part 2) on file.
•A rescue medication (e.g., Diastat, intranasal midazolam) must be provided if prescribed.
•Staff are trained to respond according to the plan during an emergency.
Diabetes
•Students with diabetes must have a Diabetes Medical Management Plan (DMMP) signed by their healthcare provider.
•Glucagon, insulin, and all necessary supplies should be provided by parents and updated regularly.
•Please coordinate with the nurse before the school year starts to schedule a care meeting if needed.
๐ค When to Keep Your Child Home
To prevent the spread of illness, please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any of the following:
- A fever of 100°F or higher (students must be fever-free without medication for 24 hours before returning)
- Vomiting or diarrhea (must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning)
- Persistent cough or breathing difficulties
- Unexplained rash or one that may be contagious
- A confirmed infectious illness (e.g., hand foot mouth, pink eye, flu,)
*It is important to contact the Health Consultant team if the child has been diagnosed with an infectious illness so the correct protocols can be made.
๐งผ Infectious Disease Precautions
We follow our local health department and state guidelines to limit the spread of communicable diseases. Students are encouraged to wash their hands frequently and practice good hygiene. If your child is diagnosed with a contagious condition, please contact the school nurse right away.
