Ohio has been experiencing a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases (specifically the "Delta" variant) over the past few weeks and that has resulted in considerable debate over expectations that should be placed on students as they return to school this fall. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) continue to recommend vaccination for ALL individuals 12-years-old and older and both organizations "strongly recommend" masks for all unvaccinated individuals. Elgin Local Schools will follow the lead of these public health organizations in encouraging all parents to evaluate these recommendations in determining the best course of action for the safety of your child(ren). Furthermore, Elgin will follow any protocols that are mandated through executive or public health order. The school district will not ask about vaccination status and will rely on the families to provide accurate information regarding the communication of any COVID-19 exposure or positive test.
While mask-wearing is recommended (not required) in the school building, there is a still-active federal order that requires that masks be work on all public transportation, which includes school buses. Therefore ALL students riding a school bus will be expected to wear a mask.
Please see the included links to the ODH prevention guidance for schools as well as the quarantine guidance and flowchart and understand that following recommended protocols is the best possible way to avoid potential quarantine for close contact with a COVID-positve individual.
