For the first three weeks of the transition all students who began the school year in the Option 1 (Elgin Comets are back) plan will attend in-person Monday through Thursday while Friday will still be a remote learning day for all. During this time teachers will continue to use Fridays to connect with students for additional support and to post remote lessons in Canvas.
Our hope is that over a 3-week period beginning on October 12, we will experience little to no increase in the spread of the virus in our school community. This will be possible through the continued diligence of our students and staff in following all safety protocols like wearing masks, maintaining as much distancing as possible, and practicing good hygiene/hand washing. Because 6 feet of distancing between students may not always be possible, we will also be adding an additional layer of protection against the spread of respiratory droplets through the addition of individual desk/table dividers for all students. At the end of the initial three weeks, and as long as our local health department still feels that it is safe for all students to be in school, we will move to in-person attendance 5 days per week on November 2nd.
I would like to thank our parents for the vast amount of responses and feedback provided in last week’s survey and remind you that your continued support in conducting daily health checks and keeping your students home when sick will be a key factor in being able to keep our students in school.
The timeline for returning is:
Monday, October 12th: K-12 students begin in-person learning Monday-Thursday with Fridays continuing as remote-learning days on October 16th and 30th. (There is no school scheduled for Friday, October 23rd)
Monday, November 2nd: (TENTATIVE) - K-12 students return to in-person learning 5 days per week. This will be contingent upon the continued guidance from Marion Public Health
