Dear Elgin Middle School Students & Families,
As we prepare for the 2019-20 school year, I cannot express how excited I am to become the middle school principal. I have been blessed to be part of the Elgin MS/HS administrative team the last 2 years as the assistant principal and am looking forward to continuing to build meaningful relationships with our students and their families in my new role.
Our staff has been working on finalizing their preparations for the next school year and we will have a few exciting changes taking place. We have made revisions to our bell schedule, attendance policies and dress code for students in grades 6 through 12. Please find these in the Communicator and on the Elgin website and direct questions to the MS/HS office.
One of our biggest changes this year will be the implementation of the Power of ICU system that the middle school and high school staffs have been researching over the last 18 months. Each teacher will be using the ICU database to monitor, track and notify parents of missing assignments. The end goal is to increase student growth and achievement while eliminating student apathy. Our goal is for EVERY STUDENT TO COMPLETE EVERY ASSIGNMENT. This is our next step in the development of utilizing our standards based grading principles.
Elgin Middle School has numerous staff changes this year as well. Please be sure to introduce yourself to our new staff and give them a nice Elgin welcome.
We are looking forward to a wonderful school year.
If you are ever in need of information, support or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the MS/HS office at (740) 223-4300.
Mr. Derrick Purtee
