Welcome back to the 2020-21 school year at Elgin High School!
The 2020-21 school year will definitely be one that will have many more questions than answers, changes on the go, and many unknowns that still are in front of us. There will be plans in place that will have students and families make choices for their education and plans put in place that not all will agree with. As we have found over the past four months, we have definitely seen how things change not only day to day but also hour by hour. What I can tell you is that we will do our very best to keep our students and families informed as we move forward through the 2020-21 school year. The administration at Elgin has been working diligently to formulate a plan that focuses on student, staff and community safety. We need to be able to adapt to the information and issues that arise on a daily basis and will communicate with all in the Elgin Community.
We still do not have answers on some of “normal” activities that usually take place. Homecoming dance, field trips, class activities, athletics are all examples of things that in a “normal” year would occur, but as of now, we cannot say whether they are a go, on hold or will be cancelled all together. Many of these will be decided for us, some will be determined at a later date, all will be discussed and determination made based on the safety first of our students, staff and all that are involved.
As your student and family make the determination for the best education situation for the 2020-21 school year, there are items that need to be addressed. Elgin is now using Final Forms for registration and gathering of information for your student. Please complete for your student whether they are attending Elgin, will be attending online, will be attending Tri Rivers Career Center, or are a full time CCP student. This can be completed on the Elgin Local Schools webpage.
Please visit the school website (www.elginschools.org) and click on the High School link for more information concerning important dates and details for all students as the summer progresses as well as throughout the school year.
Elgin High School is here for you and at anytime we are here to help. Regardless of whether your student(s) is remote learning or attending Elgin High School we will do all possible to provide the best learning environment. If at any time you or your student is in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the high school office to set up an appointment with any staff member. As this year evolves and changes, you may have many questions. Please reach out to us and we will do all we can to answer them for you. We look forward to working with both the students and parents to make the high school experience a great one in an unusual time! Best of luck to all students for an exciting 2020-21 school year! Go Comets!
Yours in Education,
Chad Cunningham, HS Principal
