My name is Mrs. Aelker, and this is my nineteenth year teaching math at Elgin.  I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Bluffton College and a Master's of Education degree in Curriculum and Technology from the University of Phoenix.  My husband is a fifth grade science teacher in the Marion City Schools, and I have two adorable children: Lucy (9) and Nolan (6).

The mission of my algebra classes is to ensure all students undertake tasks which promote positive self-esteem, intellectual growth, and physical well being.  Appropriately styled learning activities will encourage growth at varying levels of ability and interest.  All students will be challenged to develop self-reliance and to achieve their full potential as they become literate, responsible, contributing members of society.  The vision of my algebra classes is to provide every student with a stimulating environment, which will challenge individuals to accept the responsibilities essential for personal, social, and academic success.

Goals
1. To communicate the importance of ownership and responsibility a student must take in his or
    her own education.
2. To increase the number of Elgin High School students at grade level in math.
3. To provide intervention for each student to become proficient in math.
4. To inform the school community of the math successes and achievements of Elgin High
    School students.
