Hello! My name is Kimberly Cornelius, and I am the sixth grade Language Arts
teacher at Elgin Middle School. The 2017/2018 school year begins my twenty-second year
of teaching in the Elgin district. As your child’s Language Arts teacher, I will strive
to provide a variety of literacy lessons and activities that will promote reading, writing,
listening, and speaking all of which are valuable life skills.
My mission statement is to model self-discipline and proper social behavior in an
effort to promote a sense of community within the classroom. I will challenge my
students to be hard working by holding high expectations for all. Finally, as an
eighth grade teacher, I will help prepare my students for their next level of education.
My educational background includes attending River Valley Local Schools grades K-12,
completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from The Ohio State
University (certification grades K-8), obtaining a State of Ohio Reading Endorsement from
the University of Findlay (certification grades K-12), and finally, a Master of Science Degree
in Education with a focus on elementary reading and literacy from Walden University. As I
like to share with my students at the beginning of each school year, I know what it is like to
be a student because I have been one myself for more than twenty-five years now.
My husband, Vance, and I have been married for twenty-five years. Vance is a 1988 Elgin
graduate and is employed with the General Mills Company in Martel, Ohio. We have one child,
Jessica, who is a 2013 Elgin graduate. As a teacher, and as parents of a child who was enrolled
in the Elgin School District K-12, our family has been involved in many activities over the years.
Mrs. Cornelius – District Spelling Bee Coordinator, Chess Club, Jump Rope Club, 6th Grade Camp
Coordinator, PE golf outings, science fair, high school musicals, and Parent/Teacher French trip chaperone.
And most receintly, 8th grade volleyball coach.
Jessica – Jump Rope Club, softball, basketball, golf, piano lessons, 4-H, FFA, French Club,
(7) high school musicals, show choir camp and volleyball.
Needless to say, a great deal of our time is dedicated to Elgin Local Schools, and we
are proud to be Comets!
Parents: One final note; please feel free to contact me throughout the school year if
you have questions, comments, or concerns about your child’s progress. Remember,
together we can accomplish anything.
