Hello! Welcome to a new year at Elgin! This is going to be an exciting year full of changes and opportunities for you and your 4th Grader. I look forward to meeting you and sharing with you how your child is learning, growing, and becoming a leader!
This is my 26th year teaching at Elgin, with 21 years at Elgin West Elementary, formerly in LaRue. I have taught 3rd Grade, 2nd Grade, 5th/6th Grade Language, 3rd-7th Grade remedial reading, 5th Grade Reading/Language Arts, and the past 3 years teaching 4th Grade RLA. I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from The Ohio State University, and my Master's Degree from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan. In May of 2014, I earned my K-12 Reading Endorsement from Ohio Dominican College.
My husband, a 1985 Elgin graduate, and I live in the New Bloomington/LaRue area and have been married for 27 years. We have two daughters. Abbi graduated from Bowling Green State University in August of 2014 with her bachelor's degree in Technology, and just recently got married to her college sweetheart, Jeffrey Crawford, on September 5, 2015. Megan, a 2014 Elgin High School graduate, is in her senior year at Bowling Green State University. I have a strong tie to Elgin School District through my family. My mother graduated from Green Camp High School in 1960, followed by my aunts, uncle, and later my cousins from Elgin High School. I graduated a Rocket, but in my heart, I am a Comet!
We are beginning a new generation here at the new Elgin K-12 building, continuing The Leader in Me program, i-Ready in math and reading, AIR assessments in the spring, one-to-one technology with every student K-12 with their own Chrome Book, scheduled opportunities for families to come to school and learn with their children, and many more exciting events to come!
In the words of our superintendent, Mr. Bruce Gast, "It is a great time to be a Comet!"
