Back-to-School Information

2018-19

First Day of School: Monday, August 20.  School starts at 7:35 AM and will dismiss at 2:30 PM.  

 

 

School Registration Forms:

 

All beginning of the year forms will be available online through SchoolMint. You will need to verify your information and resubmit the SchoolMint form.  This can be completed at the time of Chromebook distribution or you can visit the Elgin Local Schools website.

All Chromebook and schedule distribution will be in the Community Room & Digital Media Center.

 

At Comet Preview:

  • Student schedules, Chromebooks and locker information will be distributed.

  • Students can tour the building to locate classrooms.

  • Staff will be available to answer questions.

  • Schedules will be available on PowerSchool August 10th.

  • If the above dates and times do not fit into your family schedule, students can pick up their schedules and Chromebooks on the first day of school.

  • Class supply lists are posted on the Elgin Middle School webpage.

 

All students at EMS will be assigned a Chromebook and have the ability to take their device home with them.  Students will be provided a bag and charger. Please stress the importance of bringing a charged Chromebook to school every day. Students will be responsible for the care and management of these computers.

 

 

Immunization Requirements:

 

All incoming 7th grade students must have the following two (2) immunizations before entry to school:

  1. Tdap

  2. MCV4 (Meningococcal)

EMS/EHS Dress Code Information:

 

The dress code for the 2018-19 school year has one change from years past: ANY CLOTHES, TOP OR BOTTOM, WITH HOLES ARE PROHIBITED.

Parent-School Communication Tools:

  1. Update and confirm your information through SchoolMint to ensure you receive phone, text and email communication from the school.

  2. Sign up for ClassDojo for communication with Middle School staff and administration.

  3. Keep the school office informed of any address or contact information changes to avoid any important information sent home through the mail.

  4. Check the district and school website frequently for news, events and calendar updates.

 

Custody Paperwork Must Be Up to Date:

 

Families with custody paperwork, including “Child Care Power of Attorney” affidavit or “Grandparent/Caretaker Authorization” Affidavit, must ensure these documents have been executed and court-stamped. If anything has changed, please provide new documents on Comet Preview day.

2018-19 Lunch Price: $2.50 ($0.40 Reduced Price)

 

 

Elgin Local Schools uses PaySchools Central (used to be PayForIt same company) - a secure online payment system for student meals.  You can now pay online for lunches by credit card or electronic check.

There is no fee to use PaySchools Central at www.payschoolscentral.com

Parents also are able to view their child’s lunch account balance and see what they are actually purchasing. You will need your child’s lunch number to set up their account. If your child does not remember his/her number, please call (740)223-4300 ext 6000.  No more lost money or wondering what is on their account.

Free and Reduced Electronic Application
You are encouraged to complete an online application instead of a paper application if you are able. The online application has the same requirements and will ask you for the same information as the paper application. Visit https://elgin.payschools.com to complete the form online.

 

 

Free and reduced lunch forms must be completed by September 13, 2018.

ELGIN LOCAL SCHOOLS CAFETERIA STANDARD PRACTICE ON UNPAID CHARGES:
It is asked that students do not charge, if they need to charge the following will be followed.  The cafeteria will allow up to 10 days of meal charges, there is no charging or buying of extras if a student owes, only a meal may be charged.  If no payment is made and the student has met their max on their account an alternate lunch will be given to the student. Charges will stay on a student’s account from year to year.  If that student is a Senior the charges must be paid before they can graduate. Payments can be made 24 hrs a day on the above www.payschoolscentral.com .

Student Activity (Pay-to-Participate) Fee

 

Students participating in all high school OHSAA sanctioned sports, as well as cheerleaders, marching band members, and show choir members must pay a $50.00 activity fee to the Elgin Board of Education before he/she participates in their first game, contest, or performance.

 

All middle school participants must pay a $25.00 activity fee to the Elgin Board of Education before he/she participates in their first contest or performance. There is a cap of $50.00 per student for middle school students, and a cap of $100.00 per student for high school students. There is also a $200.00 family cap.
All students will also need to return all uniforms and equipment, and/or pay for any lost or damaged items, before they will be eligible to participate in any other activity at Elgin or receive any award.
