Parents and Guardians,
Elgin High School will be holding the First Annual College and Career Day on Friday, February 23, 2018. This will truly be one of the most important and beneficial days for our students this school year, and your students attendance is vital and important. The role of educators today is to prepare students for success after graduation. The purpose of College and Career Day is to allow students to network with over 55 employers in our Job Fair and/or collect information from over 25 post secondary options including: military, 2 and 4 year colleges, and apprenticeship programs in our College Fair. Students were able to select from over 40 career breakout sessions based on the career clusters of their choice. This day would not be possible for all Elgin high school students without the combined efforts of both businesses and educators. Elgin wants to be the leader in the Marion area in providing opportunities for success to our students and thus the reason for College and Career Day.
Students at Elgin High School will be able to leave this day with a better understanding of a possible college to attend, career field to explore, and/or an employment opportunity that could be immediate or in their future. Connections can be made with individuals that will assist in students making positive decisions for their futures, whether that is a college choice or a career to pursue!
Elgin will also have two presentations for our students. Marion Made! is an organization promoting the positive Marion area people, products, places, programs, and projects that are available to all students and community members. Triple Threat Leadership and Dr. Scott Grant will discuss both the positive and negative aspects of social media today and present students with strategies on how to use social media in a positive way with an outline of a plan for all individuals to follow. Students will also attend a Financial Literacy session and hear the basics to start out on the right foot moving forward.
Elgin High School is extremely excited for our College and Career Day. We hope that you take some time to discuss this with your students both before and after the event and contribute to the continued success of all of our Elgin High School students.
