Elgin FFA attends National Convention

November 10, 2016

Elgin recognized at National FFA Convention

This year the 90th National FFA Convention was held in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Convention was held the week of October 25th through October 28th. National FFA Convention is a highlight of a year of hard work in FFA. At this treasured ceremony the top FFA members in their field are honored, and awarded for their contributions to the organization, and the nation. Ohio was well represented at the National Convention. Former Ohio FFA President Sydney Snider was the Eastern Region Vice-President. Elgin traveled to Indianapolis with the Mt. Gilead and Highland FFA Chapters. While at convention the FFA toured a landfill that converted methane gas to power the heaters in their huge greenhouse. The chapter also attended a rodeo at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. A highlight of the trip was seeing Elgin high school alumni Morgan Stoner receive the American Degree. This is the highest degree that one can obtain in the FFA, and is received by less than 1% of all FFA members every year. Elgin was also recognized as a 3 star chapter in the USA. This ranks Elgin in the top 2% of all chapters in the country.
